Edie Carey with special guest Gia Dagenhart— Saturday, March 23, 2024— https://ediecarey.com/ —7:00 PM = NEW showtime!

Maple Street Concerts warmly welcomes Colorado-based singer-songwriter EDIE CAREY, who is known for her unmistakable, soulful voice, her intelligent, heart-grabbing songs, but perhaps most especially for her warm, engaging presence on—and off—stage. As much a part of her show as the music itself, Carey’s wry and often self-mocking humor makes audiences feel as though they have just spent an evening with a very close friend. Edie has been singing at festivals, colleges, and listening rooms across the US, Canada, and Europe since 1999. She has performed alongside Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett, Brandi Carlile, and Shawn Mullins, and was a featured vocalist on the Grammy-winning Ensemble Album, “All the Ladies” in 2020. Edie is a Kerrville New Folk Contest winner (2012), and her eleventh album, “The Veil,” was released in June 2022.

In honor of our 40th year, Lombard local Gia Dagenhart, a budding songwriter with an impressive voice, will perform an opening set. Gia is a music student at Lawrence University (Appleton, Wisconsin) and is the daughter of Maple Street Concerts' founder, the late Bryan Dagenhart, and our current Concert Presenter, Melissa.

Tickets are $20 (online ticket purchase includes a $1.25 processing fee = $21.25). Tickets may also be purchased at the door with cash or check only, pending availability. All sales are final. (Showtime is 7:00 PM. Doors open at 6:30 PM.)

Named “Best Folk/Soul Artist” at the 2022 Richmond International Film + Music Festival, STONE & SNOW is an Americana pairing of songwriters and multi-instrumentalists, Karen Bridges and Clint Thomson. In 2012, they began a collaboration filled with close harmonies and thoughtful lyrics and gave it a name that gives a nod to the mountain landscapes of the West. Both are passionate about elevating women in music. Through hosting performances for women artists, their work collecting data on the gender balance in their local scene, and Karen’s involvement in the “Girls Rock!” franchise, Stone & Snow is invested in seeing more women grow and thrive in the music industry.

Stone & Snow has self-produced and released five studio albums to date: "Delicate and Wild" (2023), "We Were Made For These Times" (2021), "Love is a Weapon" (2019), "Devil That I Know" (2016), and "These are the Hills" (2014). They were named a top entry in the 2020 NPR Tiny Desk Contest for their song “Cruel.” Making their debut performance at Maple Street Concerts, they recently relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio, from Bloomington-Normal, IL. Our favorite way to start the New Year is with Special Consensus and their smokin' bluegrass! We welcome Special C back for their 18th show at Maple Street Concerts. Maple Street Chapel, 200 S Main Street, Lombard, IL 60148

Robert Jones & Matt Watroba — Sunday, November 12, 2023 — https://www.commonchords.net/

A hardy welcome to two impressive veteran performers, ROBERT JONES AND MATT WATROBA, making their debut performance at Maple Street Concerts. Robert and Matt met over thirty-five years ago when they hosted back-to-back radio shows on WDET-FM (Detroit). In forging their musical partnership, they discovered a friendship based in mutual respect and a love for traditional American music: Folk, Blues, Spirituals, Work Songs, Chants, etc. This American Roots Music is the common music across America and the world, and it is music that matters. It reflects history, social change, migration, hopes and dreams, and it is rich and diverse, direct and powerful.

As talented as they are individually, together they form a synergy that is engaging, inspirational, and soul-nurturing. They formed a non-profit company called “Common Chords” to connect communities through music and the arts. Jones and Watroba utilize the folk process to bring people together through music and showcase what we all have in common. Music and stories bypass the brain and go straight to the heart.

Tickets are $20 (online ticket purchase includes a $1.25 processing fee = $21.25). Tickets may also be purchased at the door with cash or check only, pending availability. All sales are final. (Showtime is 3:00 PM. Doors open at 2:30 PM.)

Rick Faris Bluegrass Band CD Release Concert

(CDT, UTC-05) (CDT, UTC-05)

Maple Street Chapel, 200 S Main Street, Lombard, IL 60148

Since branching off from The Special Consensus, Rick has continued making music with his own band and they are celebrating the release of their latest CD with us for a special, off-season bonus concert! "Uncommon Sky" is Faris' third album on the Dark Shadow Recording label.

Rick Faris has been playing Bluegrass music since he could talk. He got his first break when the Bluegrass stalwart, Greg Cahill, called and asked him to audition for Special Consensus. The job was to be transformative for Faris because Greg hired him to play mandolin rather than the guitar he had been honing since he was a child. With 5 weeks to learn the mandolin and win the audition, Rick Faris stepped into the next stage of his career. After 6 years, 1 Grammy-Nomination and 2 IBMA Awards he switched back home to guitar and the band picked up another 3 IBMA Awards and a 2nd Grammy Nomination. Rick spent a total of 11 years with the globetrotting Special Consensus. Under Greg Cahill, he learned the meaning of professionalism and giving back to the Bluegrass community.

Rick signed a deal as a solo artist with Dark Shadow Recording in 2018 and released his debut album Breaking In Lonesome in 2019. With watertight harmony singers and mind-blowing pickers, Rick set out to show the world what his brand of Bluegrass sounds like. His second album, The Next Mountain (2021) garnered industry-wide attention with intense chart action and both SPBGMA and IBMA "Song of the Year" nominations as well as a "New Artist of the Year" win at IBMA 2022.

Jonas Friddle & Andrew Wilkins: fretless banjo & upright bass

Reminder: Masks are still required in the Chapel. Thank You!

Jonas Friddle is a singer, songwriter and Old-Time banjo player whose songs have received The John Lennon Songwriting Award, First Place in the Great American Song Contest and a nomination for Album of the Year in the Independent Music Awards. His tunes bear the marks of a musician who has done his time in pub sessions and square dance halls, and his writing is full of imagery, honesty and humor. When playing with accomplished bassist Andrew Wilkins, the two explore the unusually beautiful and rhythmic combination of double bass and fretless banjo.

“[Friddle] deftly explores just about every nook and cranny of modern folk, from revivalist antique appropriation to protest songs to modern love songs. The immaculate arrangements would sell it, if his lithe voice hadn’t already given it away. Amazing stuff.” - Independent Clauses Tickets include a $1.25 processing fee = $21.25.

Lee Murdock's "Christmas Ship" concert

Maple Street Chapel, 200 S. Main Street, Lombard

Lee Murdock’s Christmas Ship concert returns to Maple Street Concerts

As satisfying as a classic Christmas movie, Lee commemorates 30 years since the idea for a Christmas Ship concert first set sail. This concert will feature songs and stories from his album “Christmas Goes to Sea” as well as his beloved instrumental arrangements of traditional holiday music. For example, his song “The Christmas Ship” about a turn-of-the-century schooner, the Rouse Simmons, that brought Christmas trees from Manistique, Mich., to sell at Chicago's Clark Street Bridge. After the Rouse Simmons was shipwrecked in 1912, the captain's wife, Barbara Schuenemann, continued to bring Christmas trees to Chicago for another 22 years. Lee has uncovered a boundless body of music and stories in the Great Lakes. Come start the Christmas season with us at this special concert by Lee Murdock.
